The nation celebrates Madiba's legacy

On 18 July 2013, the international community will unite in celebration of the life one of the legendary icons of our time, former President Nelson Mandela. The day marks Madiba's 95rd birthday this year. The 18th of July was declared by the UN General Assembly as an annual Nelson Mandela Day in 2009. The celebration of this day recognises and gives credence to Mandela's commitment to human rights, conflict resolution and reconciliation.

!Kauru African Contemporary Art Touring project is hosting a Round Table Discussion on the 12 July 2013 at 10h00 -16h00 at the Turbine Hall in Newtown Johannesburg. Key stakeholders have been invited to discuss the future of this project, and the Round Table is also open to interested parties to attend. Delegates include: Karabo Kgoleng, Tshepiso Mohlala, Zodwa Mpanza and also representatives from Brand South Africa, Gauteng Tourism, Department of Art and Culture, Department of International Relations and Cooperation-SA.

Life of Forms: Project Space opens to the public

The GoetheonMain project space becomes a satellite venue for hosting exhibitions, stagings and interventions related to JWTC, conceptualised by Zen Marie. Participants of the workshop are invited to extend their theoretical work space, through visual, audial, performed and spatial dimensions.

South African work showcased at National Arts Festival

Three showcases of important South African work are on offer at this year's National Arts Festival, 27 June to 7 July 2013: a spotlight on the work of playwright Mike van Graan, acclaimed work from the Market Theatre, and new work produced by the PE Opera House and funded by the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council.

My Joburg is part of a series of exhibitions dedicated to La Maison Rouge art scenes of "peripheral" cities, the cycle was initiated in 2011 with the City of Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada).

South African Art Triumphs at Auction

The auction floor at Stephan Welz & Co. in Cape Town last week was indeed 'Proudly South African', with two Maggie Laubser paintings and one Tretchikoff selling for over R1 million each, and an iconic Sydney Kumalo sculpture going for R728 000, nearly four times its estimated value.

Concert To, presented at the Sasol Art Museum

This unconventional concert will be performed every hour and half for the duration of the exhibition. In this project composers and sound artists were asked to compose an electronic piece of no more than ten minutes for a stereo speaker set-up.
